One half of the founding Directors of AFS, I’ve been involved in freight forwarding since the 1980’s. I put down my school textbook, started a YTS role in operations and have been involved in the industry ever since. After a long spell with one freight forwarder, Alan and I began AFS in 2007 and we’ve never looked back. The satisfaction of playing a key role in the growth and success of our clients is the part of this job that I truly relish.
When I’m not co-ordinating deadline deliveries or liaising with our overseas partners then I’m either at home with the family, on the touchline watching rugby union or off into the mountains to keep my hand in on the slopes.
My first job was as a 16-year-old warehouseman in St Helens. Several years later I have worn pretty much every hat there is to wear in freight forwarding and logistics. From driving forklifts and 18 tonne curtain siders to passing a qualification in freight forwarding and working for the world’s largest shipping line. I converted to life as a freight forwarder and 27 years later I still have enormous passion for the industry.
Setting up in partnership with Steve and forming AFS meant we were able to look after our clients exactly the way we wanted to. Many of our clients from day one are still with us today, this is something I’m immensely proud of. In terms of challenges, I love nothing more than getting my teeth into a complex cross trade or an obscure project shipment. Away from my desk I enjoy watching football and travelling amongst many hobbies; but more importantly spending valuable time with my family.
From joining the business in its first year to take over control of the accounts from Alan, to 13 years down the line as FD overseeing Finance, HR, IT and generally keeping everyone in line. I’ve worked in accounting and finance for many years but the challenge of handling multiple roles at AFS is what keeps me engaged although sometimes tests my sanity.
My proudest moment has been seeing the growth, development and expansion of AFS over the years and the excitement of seeing where the new team and brand may take us. I love being outdoors with my family, arranging social engagements with friends or relishing some rare peace and quiet with a good book.
My role in the AFS team is to champion growth, develop new business opportunities and oversee the marketing strategy of the business. With a background outside of the shipping industry, my challenge is to bring in different approaches to growing our business and provide a platform to showcase the diverse range of talent and experience we have in our ranks.
Outside of the office you’ll find me heavily involved in the sporting world with my young family, on the beach in North Wales or heading towards a karaoke machine.
I’m one of the longest serving members of the AFS ops team having joined in the business in the Autumn of 2012. Having left college, I worked for two different forwarders prior to making the move to AFS and since joining, I haven’t looked back.
In the office I manage our 5,4,3,2,1 process of ensuring that customer deliveries are always on our hauliers’ radar and I check each day to make sure all is in order. I cover all essential processes closest to the cargo landing, clearing and being delivered as well as booking LCL deliveries and providing customers with regular progress updates.
An ankle injury has put a delay on my return to fell running having completed a Snowdonia race and also the Manchester marathon in the last few years. However, with baby number one on the way, I imagine that my spare time will be reduced and so I’ll make do with taking Sergio Bernardo Raheem Flannery to watch our beloved Blues.
**Baby James has since joined the AFS Global family, so you can see that Rob wasn't successful with his proposed names...
Proud member of the import operations team, delivering industry leading customer service. Facilitating the smooth handling of import consignments from arrival UK to ultimate final delivery. Specifically involved in pre-vessel arrival processing, ERTS warehouse processing, transport planning, customs clearance and HMRC compliance, as well as assisting our Air Imports team.
Almost 2 decades of experience in both import and export supported by multimodal freight forwarding qualifications. At AFS, each team member has their own strengths and experiences and results in our team being truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Away from the office you will find me heavily involved in the world of amateur dramatics and musical theatre, completing various home improvement/DIY projects or looking for my next adventure with my wife and the twins.
My role within the AFS Imports Team is to deliver a consistently high level of customer service to each our of clients, whilst handling their imports from pre alert level, right through to final delivery in the UK.
My area of focus within our team is to ensure all shipments are loaded into our import freight system for tracking & clearance purposes, sending out arrival notices to clients and finally planning the transport to the consignee. With almost 10 years’ experience in both sea freight imports & account management, I relish working alongside such experienced colleagues, with the same positive attitude and outlook towards delivering an outstanding level of customer service.
In my own time I enjoy family day trips out with my young daughter. If we’re not at the park, then you’ll probably find us at the cinema.
My career started after school with a role in baggage handling at Manchester airport and progressed through several other roles in and around the industry. Taking the opportunity to develop my career I enrolled for a freight training scheme, thoroughly enjoying developing my knowledge and skills, culminating in a qualification in freight management.
Now, truly a multimodal operator, 18 years on I still get a buzz from working with clients, making sure their shipments are landed, cleared and delivered on plan. My experience with imports, exports, projects and compliant customs clearances means that I’m able to support our customers across all types of shipping.
A mad Man City fan and long-term season ticket holder with my lads, my love of sport even extends to my role as Captain of Wilmslow Sports and Social Crown Green Bowling B-Team. A music enthusiast, family man and always interested in a good social.
I started my career working in a warehouse at 18 years old and fresh out of college, I spent 5 years and worked in pretty much every role including getting my fork lift truck licence.
Looking for a new challenge I applied for an office role in freight forwarding, starting as a junior I progressed up to handling my own customers as a key account manager, focussing on short and deep-sea shipments, looking after the whole end to end process, from booking to delivery.
After two years I made the move to join AFS to be part the fast-growing operations team. Keen to work with a wider customer base as well as further develop my account management experience.
Out of the office I’m a passionate Manchester United fan, keen golfer and also an avid angler…
Import / Export Operations
Working across our key accounts at AFS, I’m able to call on my experience across several previous roles, whilst at the same time, always keen to try something new. Sea freight imports is my bread and butter, although handling less food stuffs and frozen chicken than before. Having added air freight imports to my resume I’ve most recently supported our exports team and relishing the new challenge.
My recently renewed passion for roller skating see’s me hitting the parks and roller rinks twice a week to hone my skills. At the weekends we’re out as a family, keeping my young son occupied, out of mischief by using anything to do with trucks as a distraction. Sounds like he maybe following in my footsteps.
The freight industry, it feels like a lifetime, well in fact, it has been! Air, sea, road, import, export and cross trades, I’ve had experience doing just about everything.
Brexit in 2020 brought about such a change in the market that customers just weren’t ready for. It’s been a tough journey, navigating our way through the ambiguity but now, with well-oiled processes in place, we’re able to expertly assist customers and make European imports and exports straight forward.
Born and bred in South Manchester, dedicated to my family and a huge Peaky blinders fan. I’m ready to get back on a plane after the lockdown, destination Turkey for sun, sea and R&R.
Was it fate that brought me to AFS? I started my career in accounts and administration and then worked in the same business as two chaps called Steve and Alan. Moving on to spend 13 years at a global logistics firm where I worked with a certain Geoff Bailey. Finally moving to AFS Global (owned by certain chaps called Steve and Alan) only to be re-joined again by Geoff!
When I’m not making sure everyone has been paid, I’m looking after my grandchildren (following in my footsteps as an Irish dancer) and making sure all the family are fed and watered around my table on Sunday for a roast dinner.
Freight Sales / Admin Support Coordinator
I started my working life back in Poland with an American advertising company. I moved to the UK in 2002 and started my journey in freight forwarding.
I took a break from industry to complete a degree in Business Management and Italian from the University of Manchester, graduating in 2009 with a 2:1.
Since returning I’ve held several roles across multiple markets including sales, operations and financial reporting.
I joined the AFS team in June, 2021 to support Alan with sales and financial administration, a role that suits my tenacity and insatiable appetite to learn.
At home, I'm a proud mother of three boys and a Grandmother to three young ones. I enjoy travelling to Poland and share a passion for Italy with my husband. We are both also cycling enthusiasts.
I love to practice my linguistic skills and I’m currently fluent in Polish, Russian, Italian and of course English.
